Kesha has been embroiled in a lengthy legal battle for 2 years now, fighting for her freedom. She has accused her producer, Doctor Luke, of emotional abuse and rape. In fact, it was because of his emotional abuse that Kesha was forced to check into a mental health facility a few years back, as she struggled daily with eating disorders.
Anyone with a sense of right and wrong can see Kesha was the victim here. But the judge was forced to dismiss the case due to insufficient evidence, causing Sony and Doctor Luke to triumph. The negative behavior towards the artist is just going to continue getting worse.
This isn't the first time my faith in the US Legal System has been shaken. Several years ago my family went through a similar crises. A former employer accused my dad of embezzlement, and because he had a terrible lawyer, and they had money and sympathy on their side, my dad was ruled guilty, despite his innocence.
The idea of our legal system is a good one, but it's become just as corrupt and money hungry as the rest of the Powers that Be.
How many times must we watch this system demonstrated? Movies such as Liar Liar showcase the corruption in the legal system. Straight Outta Compton shows us how the color of your skin taints the justice system towards you. Cases like this between Kesha and Sony prove that if there is enough money involved, a victim can be trampled on by the very people who swore to uphold the law and protect the most vulnerable among us.
And yet time and time again, we see the country we live in become a money pit full of greedy, self-serving jerks.
My heart goes out to Kesha during the impossible times ahead, being forced to work with her abuser and rapist. And my heart also goes out to all the other victims who's abusers walk free in the daylight, and all the people who have been stepped on by the corruption pouring from Hollywood and the Legal System.
Maybe one day, justice will be served in the way it should; the victims will be venerated and protected, the abusers will be locked up and judged as they should.
