We've all heard that, or something like it. We all believe that God will bring us out of the storm and we can appreciate the beautiful rainbow at the end.
But life isn't always exactly like how we think it should be.
We expect the storm, then we will personally get to see the rainbow at the end, but that is not always the case. Sometimes our lives are there as a beacon of hope to others, even if we don't get to share in that hope.
I once watched a movie called A Greater Yes. It was based on the story of Amy Newhouse, a young woman who died of cancer at the age of 16.
She was very popular in her school, before she got sick. When she discovered she had cancer, she had the entire community praying for her. When she got sick a second time, she felt like God had denied her, she had made plans for her life, she wanted to continue helping others, she wanted to go to a Bible college, she wanted to witness for God.
What she came to realize was that, while God had said no to her plans, He had a greater plan for her life. Her story created a revival in the community. People drew closer together through her story, they began praying, drawing closer to God because of what she was going through.
Amy Newhouse died at 16. She would never quite see what her life had done. A revival happened because of her life, God drew others closer to him because of her, she had been able to be used by Him to witness, just not in the way she planned. There was a rainbow at the end of her storm, but her rest from her illness came by her leaving her body behind.
Amy died in 1999, but her story lives on. Even still, her life is a beacon of hope for those who hear it. While her life was cut short by cancer, her testimony lives on.
Sometimes it feels like we suffer in vain. I'm sure Amy felt the same way, but we can't always see the big picture.
God can see all of time, He knows what kind of impact we will make. When it feels like all of our good intentions are failing because we don't see immediate results, just remember that sometimes our story is for future generation.
When we are in God's will, we never suffer for no reason. God has control of every situation, even the ones that seem bleak.
When you feel like you are suffering pointlessly for no reason, remember Amy Newhouse, and how her suffering started something, it all came to good in the end.
One day, our suffering will end, and we will spend eternity in Paradise with our Lord and Savior, just like Amy Newhouse is right now.
Cheers!
